3 CUTHBERT JOHN OTTAWAY 1850 – 1878

The first ever football international was held between Scotland v England in 1872. The match took place on Saturday 30th November at West of Scotland Cricket Club Ground, Hamilton Crescent, Partick, Scotland. The match finished in a 0–0 draw and was watched by 4,000 spectators. All eleven Scottish players were selected from Queen’s Park, the leading Scottish club at this time. The English side was selected from nine different clubs. The captain of the England side was Cuthbert John Ottaway. Cuthbert Ottaway played for Marlow FC on the ground which is in Riley Park. 2013 marked the 150th anniversary of the founding of the F.A. A game was played on the Trust Ground and the Davis Football Ground to commemorate the anniversary.
